Our School
CWSS is located at Felspar Avenue, Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden. It opened its doors to the public on the 15th September 1975 as a Multilateral School.
At present it is referred to as the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School, accommodating approximately 790 Students (both male and female).
CWSS offers 24 subjects at the C.X.C level and has in its employ 59 teachers.

In addition to the academic courses, the students are also exposed to training in Physical Education, Dance, Drama and Music. They are well known for their achievement in sporting activities such as basketball, volleyball, football, cricket and circle-tennis. They often participate in parades and debates.

The History of This School
The Christianburg Wismar Secondary School resulted from the transition of Preston High School (a private school) to a government owned institution.

The Preston High School was established and privately owned by Mr. E. A. Wilson who owned another school in New Amsterdam. The school was housed in the building of the Mechanics Pride Lodge (known some times as Preston Lodge) that was located in Victory Valley. The demands to attend the school were great since it had an enviable reputation. This led to an overcrowding situation in the middle flat of the building. Luckily, the kindness of the lodge official allowed for the enclosure of the bottom flat in order to alleviate the overcrowding problem.
Preston High School was the only secondary school on the western side of the Demerara River for a number of years.

A change in the state of the country correlated with the changes in the school. In April 1970 the school was shifted to new quarters in Kara Kara (now being used by Mackenzie Primary School), even though the name of the school was changed to Wismar Christianburg Secondary School with the understanding that a structure was to be erected in the Blueberry Hill area.

In 1972 building began on the new school structure, known today as the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School.
